AFGHAN WAR: Fighting continues in Helmand

The fighting continues in Helmand and our Lashkar-gah Surgical Centre continues to receive injured patients. In just the last 24 hours, our surgeons have performed 43 operations. 283 operations since the beginning of October.

Vesna, our hospital coordinator, writes: “The heaviest fighting is in Babaji, not far from Lashkar-gah. This morning, we were informed to expect arrivals of wounded patients and we immediately put in place the procedures for a mass casualty. So far, 22 people have arrived. As you can see in the picture, we had to put mats on the ground to receive them. For security reasons, in fact, we decided not to keep the patients in the external tents that we usually use when dealing with a mass casualty.

The hospital is full and we have had to discharge patients who weren’t seriously injured to make sure that there is space available for new arrivals.
