War also means… being born in a surgical centre for war victims

War also means being born in a surgical centre for victims and the injured.

A few days ago, at our hospital in Kabul, we admitted a woman from the new First Aid Post in Laghman. Our colleagues from Afghanistan wrote to us, explaining that “it seems we have opened it especially for her.”
She had a bullet wound to the head. She was 8 months pregnant and in labour. We brought her into the operating room immediately and, as you can see from the photos taken alongside Giorgia, both mother and child are doing well.

What is our wish? We hope that the baby can grow in a country that finally knows peace.
