Gino Strada began his work as war surgeon in 1989, working in Countries such as Afghanistan, Somalia, Rwanda and Bosnia. In this book, he narrates the story of ten years of his work: an extraordinary experience alongside war victims.
The analysis of the devastating effects of landmines is a central theme of the book.

The book (reprinted over 35 times in Italy) has sold more than 400,000 copies. It has been translated into French, German, Korean and Japanese.

The english version of “Green Parrots” was published in November 2004 (Charta Edition) with a foreword by Howard Zinn, american historian, and an afterword by Gino Strada.
