The Chief Engineer is responsible for the management of the engine room, the machinery on-board and the technical equipment of the ship. In particular, he/she is responsible for the maintenance of the main engines, alternators, generators, electrical panels, compressors, protection and safety systems.

The job requires simultaneous training and instruction of the crew to maintain standards in a process of continuous improvement. He/she is responsible for the good management of energy consumption, reporting and documentation with full support and availability of the rest of the crew and embarked personnel.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Chief Engineer:

– Is responsible for the technical management of the ship in compliance with the regulations and requirements of the authorities;

– Is responsible for strategic technical management decisions of the ship;

– Manages the department and maintenance in accordance with the Commander;

– Supports and assists the Commander in the management operations of the ship, crew and its activities;

– Is responsible for the management of the ship in its technical aspects.

 SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

– Valid certificate as Chief Engineer for vessels equal to or greater than 500 GT;

– Previous experience in the role;

– Complete autonomy in the organization and execution of work;

– Ability to train crew and in achieving goals through teamwork;

– Ability to work under stressful situations while maintaining effective communication and professionalism;

– Knowledge of machinery monitoring systems;

– Willingness to take part in on-call shifts;

– Ability to delegate

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

– Good experience in RHIB maintenance

– Knowledge of ABC motors

– Experience in welding and carpentry

– Knowledge of Italian language
