EMERGENCY is seeking a skilled and motivated Clinical Education Officer to join its health education and training team. The selected candidate will play a pivotal role in strengthening the capacity of nursing staff through the development, implementation, and evaluation of training programmes aligned with contemporary educational models and international best practices.

The Clinical Education Officer will work from EMERGENCY’s headquarters in Italy and travel to international project sites for training missions. The role requires a deep commitment to nursing education, equity in healthcare, and the use of evidence-based pedagogical strategies to improve patient outcomes and professional nursing practice in fragile contexts.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum Design and Development

  • Design and update nursing curricula tailored to the context of EMERGENCY’s projects, aligned with current healthcare trends.
  • Apply adult learning principles and evidence-based educational theories to support effective teaching and learning.
  • Develop theoretical and clinical training courses using innovative, learner-centered approaches.

Teaching and Facilitation

  • Deliver in-person and remote training to nurses and nursing students with diverse backgrounds and learning needs.
  • Promote critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and professional behaviour among learners.
  • Utilize digital technologies (eLearning platforms, simulation tools, etc.) to support teaching and learning.

Assessment and Evaluation

  • Develop and apply assessment tools across technical, cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains.
  • Monitor learning outcomes, provide feedback, and adapt educational interventions accordingly.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of teaching practices and contribute to the continuous improvement of training programmes.

Research and Evidence-Based Practice

  • Promote inquiry-based learning and engage in nursing education research.
  • Support the generation and application of knowledge to address education and practice-related challenges.
  • Encourage scholarly writing, reflection, and publication within the nursing education field.

Leadership and Professional Development

  • Model professional and ethical behaviour in line with EMERGENCY’s values.
  • Mentor nurses and students, supporting their academic, clinical, and personal growth.
  • Collaborate with project staff and leadership to ensure alignment with institutional goals.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Foster intercultural and interdisciplinary collaboration within the organisation and with external partners.
  • Communicate effectively with local educators, clinical teams, and international colleagues to ensure cohesive educational strategies.
  • Contribute to the development of nursing education policies and decision-making processes.
Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or equivalent recognised qualification, a Master’s degree is an asset
  • Valid nursing registration/license to practice in the country of provenience.
  • Formal training in education/teaching (before or shortly after employment as educator).
  • At least 2 years of full-time clinical experience within the last 5 years.

Professional Experience

  • Proven experience in nursing education, including tutoring, mentoring, and evaluating students.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver curricula and training modules in theoretical and clinical contexts.

Skills and Attributes

  • Solid knowledge of educational theories, adult learning principles, and curriculum development.
  • Excellent teaching, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational and leadership abilities.
  • High digital literacy and ability to integrate information technologies in education.

Languages

  • Fluent in English (minimum B2 level).
  • Italian language proficiency is an asset.

Availability

  • Willingness to travel and spend up to 6 months/year on international assignments in EMERGENCY’s project countries.
