EMERGENCY informed by MOAS of the decision to terminate the collaboration

Tuesday, August 2, 2016

Last Friday, Emergency was informed by MOAS, Migrant Offshore Aid Station, of the decision to terminate the collaboration between the two organizations onboard the Responder to provide rescue and care to the migrants in the Mediterranean sea.

The reasons reported by MOAS are economic ones and they are independent from the actions and the will of Emergency, wasn’t involved in this decision.

For this reason, with deep sadness, Emergency will leave the Responder today after a two month mission during which it has assisted 4.950 migrants, providing healthcare, cultural mediation, and all post rescue assistance.

While disembarking Responder, we continue our commitment to assist migrants landing in Sicily, in the ports of Augusta, Pozzallo, Porto Empedocle and in the centres of Priolo, Villa Sikania and Rosolini. Assisting migrants is one of the aims of our program in Italy which – from 2006 – has been providing more than 240.000 visits and health orientation sessions in 5 Italian Regions.
