Service delivering goods – food, medicine and other basic items – to people over 65, who have been ordered to quarantine themselves, and people at risk.

In order to respond to the needs of people in home isolation and to minimize the movement of the weakest sections of the population, together with the Municipality of Milan, we have activated a service delivering first- need-items, within the “Milano Aiuta” platform. .

A Coordination team and 150 volunteers (from EMERGENCY and the Solidarity Brigades) are engaged in this activity, making over 100 deliveries per day.

How to benefit from the delivery service

The service is intended for people over 65, for those who have been ordered to quarantine themselves, and the vulnerable ones who cannot risk leaving their homes. Moreover, a service delivering meals to the most vulnerable has been activated, to guarantee everyone the answer to a primary and essential need.

The service runs from 9 am to 1 pm, Monday to Saturday. It can be reached by calling 020202 and is completely free of charge.

The project

EMERGENCY has been running a delivery service of food and drugs, while also collects the necessary medical prescriptions for people who are unable to reach their general practitioner.

Calls are passed on by the Milan municipal government to Casa Emergency, EMERGENCY’s headquarters, where a work area has been set up with 6 workstations, whose role is to assign cases to volunteers spread around the city.

Volunteers are currently moving in pairs and will wear a badge to identify themselves.
All of them have received special training to minimise the risk of contagion to both themselves and the people they are supporting. Twice a week meetings are held by teleconference with all operators, for an in-depth training and to evaluate doubts and problems that have emerged.

Working in maximum safety is essential to fight against the diffusion of the virus.
