Start of activities
Even in Sardinia, many people lack the access to care they are entitled to.
In 2012 we opened a Socio-Medical Support and Information Point in Sassari, which became an Outpatient Clinic in 2016, for people otherwise excluded from access to care.
They are migrants, foreigners, destitute people who, because of language difficulties and the fear of being reported to police, or lack of knowledge of their rights, are unable to navigate Italy’s healthcare system and obtain the assistance they need and are entitled to.
Our Outpatient Clinic offers free of charge basic and specialist medical services and socio-sanitary assistance to facilitate access to the healthcare system to those who need it.
Cultural mediators inform patients about their rights, help them access the public health service, accompany them in case they have to undergo visits or specialist examinations at public facilities, deal with the documents for issuing STP codes (Temporarily Present Foreigner) and ENI (non registered European citizens), guaranteeing access to the public health service for foreigners and EU citizens. Sassari’s outpatient clinic also carries out health education and prevention activities.
Our Work in Santa Maria di Pisa
In October 2021, we strengthened our intervention in the region by opening a second Outpatient Clinic, in collaboration with the municipality of Sassari and the Tanda Pharmacy, in the suburb of Latte Dolce – Santa Maria di Pisa. This Clinic expands the activities of a Socio-Medical Support and Information Point opened in 2019, dedicated to listening, information and prevention education activities.
Since its opening, 194 users have been registered, for a total of 565 socio-healthcare consultations.
The Nursing Outpatient Clinic is open three mornings per week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9am to 1pm). Health-related activities are aimed at the social and health care of vulnerable people in the neighbourhood, health education and an improvement in the quality of life itself.
On the same days and at the same times, socio-medical guidance counselling also continues.
