A Little Relief | Noor’s Story

This is Noor’s first time using a wheelchair.

He hesitates, travels in the wrong direction, then loses control of a wheel. He needs further support, but he does not stop trying again and again.

With his leg in a plaster cast after a workplace accident, Noor must take a break from the odd jobs he usually picks up to earn money for his family. His father is paralysed and his brothers, like Noor, do not have regular employment.

According to most recent estimates, 85% of Afghans are living on less than a dollar a day. Losing even one day of work means less money, less food, less petrol, less care.

After the accident, Noor’s employer rushed him to our hospital, where we treated him completely free of charge. In spite of everything, his eyes have kept an optimistic glow. In the open air of our garden, he has found a little relief.

EMERGENCY’s project in Lashkar-Gah, Afghanistan, is supported by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation.
