Ukraine | Our refurbishment of the Husarivka Clinic in Kharkiv, through the eyes of Liudmyla and Dmytro
“I visit the clinic regularly. It gives me the chance to go for a short walk and keep an eye on my health. For me, movement is life.”
Liudmyla lives in Husarivka, a village in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region. She tells us about the impact that our refurbishment of the clinic in her community has had on her health and that of other residents in the region, which has been severely affected by the war.

“As a local resident, I’ve known this place for years and it’s now in excellent condition. We’re all very glad to be able to receive the care we need here and, even more so, to see our healthcare providers working in such good conditions. I hope we’ll be able to keep coming here for a long time.”

In the Kharkiv region, communities are under constant stress, which makes regular check-ups all the more important.
Thanks to a network of clinics across the region – which we have set up in areas lacking healthcare facilities – access to care is available even for those living in isolated villages.
Liudmyla is not the only one to have noticed the difference. Other patients have also commented positively on the changes.
“I still can’t get used to this new look of our clinic. Every time I walk through the door, it feels like I’m entering a different place. I can only recognise it when I see our familiar medical staff,” says Dmytro.
Before and after work, Dmytro pops into the clinic to have his blood pressure checked.

For him, like many people in the area, checking his health has now become a daily act of self-care.
The project forms part of the Emergency Initiative to support populations affected by the conflict in Ukraine and neighbouring countries, funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) through the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS).
