Afghanistan | 27 People Received at Kabul Surgical Centre

Tuesday, March 17, 2026

27 people were received at EMERGENCY’s Surgical Centre for War Victims in Kabul following air strikes that took place on Monday evening in the Afghan capital. Among the locations hit was an addiction treatment centre.

“We have received 27 people at our hospital and it was necessary to activate the mass casualty protocol,” explains Dejan Panic, Country Director of EMERGENCY’s programme in Afghanistan. “Among the injured, all of whom are adults, is one woman. Two cases are critical. Unfortunately, three people arrived already dead. Among the locations hit was an addiction treatment centre. We call for healthcare facilities to always be respected.”

“The situation has worsened over the last months,” continues Panic, “especially in the capital, where attacks of this kind have not been seen since the end of the conflict in 2021. The latest occurred a few weeks ago, following which several injured people, including women and children, arrived at our hospital.”
