Terrorist attack in Kabul: 21 wounded have been taken to our Hospital
Afghanistan. This morning, a terrorist attack at the Bager-ul-uloom mosque in the Darul Aman area in Kabul killed at least 27 people. Official reports talk about dozens of injured. 21 of these have been taken to our Surgical Centre for War Victims in Kabul. Unfortunately, 2 people were dead on arrival. Our staff at the Centre are on alert and ready to receive patients that are still en route.
Worshippers were at the mosque to celebrate Arbaeen, a commemoration that marks the end of the mourning period for the death of Imam Hussein. On 11th October, the day of Ashura – a festival that falls 40 days before Arbaeen – a terrorist attack killed 14 people.
According to the United Nations, the first six months of 2016 saw a record number of civilian casualties in Afghanistan – the highest number since the beginning of the conflict. Between January and June 2016, there have been 1,601 civilian deaths and 3,565 injuries – marking a 4% increase on last year.
