EMERGENCY NGO at the World Innovation Summit for Health 2024
EMERGENCY NGO’s work providing free, high-quality care to victims of war and poverty will feature during panel discussions and an art exhibition at the 2024 edition of the World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH) in Doha, Qatar on 13 and 14 November.
Attendees at WISH will be able to visit an exhibition of original drawings featuring EMERGENCY’s projects across Afghanistan by Margherita Tramutoli (aka La Tram). Together with writer Francesca Romana Torre, they produced the graphic novel Till The Last Bird Sings, which was released earlier in 2024 and aimed to shine a light on some of the issues the Afghan people currently face, from the vantage point of EMERGENCY’s hospitals and healthcare centres.
The graphic novel was inspired by EMERGENCY’s 2022 report, “Access to Care in Afghanistan: Perspectives from Afghan People in 10 Provinces,” which surveyed patients and staff at EMERGENCY’s health facilities and public hospitals to better understand the barriers to care.
EMERGENCY’s president, Rossella Miccio, will host an event at 10am on 13 November 2024, entitled, “As health systems crumble, has Sudan become the forgotten war.” The session, at the Agora stage, will focus on the devastating impact that a year and a half of conflict has had on the civilian population of Sudan, in what for months has been among the world’s worst displacement and hunger crises.
Ms Miccio will also join the panel discussion, “Rebuilding Hope: Healing, Reconstruction, and Resilience,” alongside representatives from UNRWA, MSF and the UN, and moderated by Yalda Hakim, at 9am on 14 November 2024. Together, the panelists will discuss how to rebuild communities when life-saving infrastructure – healthcare – has been compromised in conflict, increasingly through targeted attacks. Ms Miccio will draw on EMERGENCY’s decades of experience providing care in Afghanistan, Iraq, Sudan and other places devastated by conflict and humanitarian crises.
